The Vallarta Real Estate Guide editorial team reached out to Debra Stevenson, president of CRATE Interiors, a prominent interior design studio based in our Mexican paradise, to learn about some of the decor trends that will be seen in various condominiums in Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit this year.

BUDGET AND DECORATING PLAN: KEY ELEMENTS
According to our expert, embarking on an interior design journey in Puerto Vallarta and/or Riviera Nayarit requires the careful consideration of two key elements: defining a budget and executing a decorating plan. “These factors become the basis for decision-making, ensuring success in creating a new home in this corner of the Mexican Pacific,” she adds.
TROPICAL COLOR PALETTES AND TEXTURES
Due to the natural benefits that Puerto Vallarta, “resort style” is a predominant interior design preference. “This style highlights coastal color palettes, as well as tropical and textured elements of decor.”
TRENDING ELEMENTS AND MATERIALS
The president of CRATE Interiors shares that recent global design fairs have seen a trend towards soft, ergonomic silhouettes and comfortable textures, including bouclé fabric. “Organic art sculptural objects with handmade details complement the creation of personal spaces that are comfortable.”

DESIGN FOR CLIMATE
Considering Puerto Vallarta’s climate, where humidity can pose challenges, Debra Stevenson notes: “In conjunction with the client, we select furniture specifically designed for tropical climates, with durable and washable fabrics, as well as sturdy woods. Even the art murals we design resist moisture better than typical wallpapers.”
